It was the merry bridesmaids I meant - but someone should tell the bride what causes it, from the look of her.
Howdy! Thank you! I admire the craftsmanship and seamstressyness that went into the "gowns", Larissa, but I really question the choice these women made as to "style"-- in this case, very little of it. Why, oh why!!! do brides and their attendants (and more often it's the bride rather than her willing minions) choose such unflattering, sometimes just downright ugly dresses to wear in a bridal pageant? (It is a pageant, isn't it? Who could believe this is Real Life? ) Does the bride think she looks "good" just because she looks (a little) better (or just different) than the ladies standing behind/beside her? [I've only worn a bridesmaid dress, once, and looked pretty damn' good; I was 17, curvy in the right places, the deep gold color of the form fitted dress complimented me quite nicely. And I looked a lot better than the bride, the pushy cow; can't figure out why my brother married her twice (the divorces, I understood).] Anyway, AJH, thanks for the critical analysis. (How come "no email address supplied"? Couldn't you make one up?)
Ragmop/Sandy--rambling, not a fan of wedding pageantry, altho' I've been both a wedding coordinator and the photographer's assistant-- well, that may explain it ;-D

Have you seen this picture?
I fired a bridesmaid. She didn't want to buy the same dress that everybody else was wearing. My bridesmaids were coming in from various parts of the country, so I picked an $89.00 dress from JC Penney's Bridal Catalog so they could all get it with minimal effort.
One of them lives near a JCP outlet store, and she got really mad when I wouldn't let her substitute a "similar" dress she found there. She said she wouldn't buy the dress and so.....she came to the wedding as a guest.

I solved the problem - I picked and purchased the dresses for my bridesmaid's ($90 from a boutique chain) and for the 3 flower girls ($35 from a local department store chain). They wore their choice of shoes and I gave them some pretty jewellery as a gift - they got to keep dresses/jewellery as a gift
All I can say is OUCH!!!!! Duct tape pulls skin off y'know. Sharon
My son had a sore on his lip a few weeks ago. It looked chapped. I asked him what happened. He said, "Tape." I've learned it isn't always a good thing to dig deeper with him. LOL So a week later he mentioned he was getting 'fuzzy' over his lip (he's 12). I said, "Oh ya? I don't see anything." He said, "That's cuz I got it off with duct tape." I then knew what had happened to his lip. LOL I looked at him and said, "When you begin to 'fuzz' in other areas, keep in mind how much that lip hurt, please!"
I thought I would be expected to buy the dresses, but the books said no. I did fly them in though, even the one who was fired. I already had the ticket, and she was still my friend, ya know?

One of mum's sisters made the bridesmaid dresses for both my wedding and my sisters wedding, my sister got us matching necklaces I've still got the dress. I got my bridesmaids similar celtic knot cross pendants and chains. From memory they only had to pay for material, the labour in making the dresses was part of the wedding present.
One bridesmaid was my future SIL and the other my bestest friend. I guess also by buying I knew I'd get exactly what I wanted.
Whenever I hear stories like this, I remember all over again why my DH and I went down to Winnemucca, Nevada, & got married at the court house! The most important two people were there - me 'n' him! No arguments about who wore what, or who paid for what!! :-)
Well, looking back, I think you made the right choice! If I had done that it would have saved some grief.

ROTFLMAO! That's a thought to make your eyes water! I read it out to my kids (12 and 14) and they looked at each other and winced.
SO NO Brazilians for them, huh? Kids these days - no sense of adventure! ;)
This is standard in the UK: bride/brides family pay for the wedding, which includes all the bridesmaids dresses, shoes, special bra if they need it - the lot! One of the fun things I was denied was going and doing all the girly shopping for the undies and shoes: one lived in Denver, the other in Nairobi, and I was marrying in Hertfordshire here in England! I did get to make all the dresses! :)
You know I have heard this problem before - and it begs a question. I had never heard of the bridesmaids having to pay for their dresses until my granddaughter was an attendant at a recent wedding (see pictures in my family webshots album). Is this something new? Optional?
I bought the brides maid & matron of honor dresses & shoes for my daughters wedding in 1984. I made the flower girl & candle lighters dresses in the fabric that I bought. She paid for the gifts for her attendants - pearl earrings. I paid for the reception and all other wedding costs except flowers & tux rental for her fiancee and his attendants.
It was the same with my own wedding in 1964. I paid for my attendants dresses and shoes. I worked and saved all my money for over a year to pay for my wedding. My parents & grandparents couldn't afford a wedding so I paid for it. My fiancee paid for the flowers and the tux rentals for his bestman, groomsmen, ushers and ring bearer. My parents & grandparents paid jointly for the reception and wedding cake. We were married at the Cathedral tree at Trees of Mystery in Northern California so there was no church fees.
Yes, I did go as a guess. When the first bridesmaid walked down the aisle, I nudged David and said "That woman is wearing my dress!" His reply was, "You can't possibly know that". I told him to keep watching. My dress was a tight fit on the one who was wearing it, and never would have gotten on any of the others.
