Oh, I'm so glad you thought about that, I wouldn't want anyone to have to rush travel plans. And I'll keep in mind weather conditions, etc, when I schedule the surgery. ;->

I'm thinking maybe a special chartered train, from the East Coast to the West. Lots of amenities, places to plug in portable sewing machines, lots of good food including choklit.....how long do you think the rehab will take? Many hands make light work, so if we all came at the same time.....

If we use my DH as an example I'd say she'll need about 3 weeks to have someone else drive for her. That's because you can't be sure of your reflexes before that. If you need to take medication before each therapy session possible 4. The 5th week Tylenol should do it. I think we need to stagger the groups so the train should make a weekly run, pick up on the West Coast trip and drop off on the return to the East. That way if someone can't spend a lot of time because of other obligations they can arrange for a replacement a little sooner. The final trip could swing by Arizona and drop Beverly off at the Grand Canyon. Juno

You are an excellent planner!!! I vote we put you in charge of the travel arrangements. Now, just to be clear, you suggest dropping Beverly off at a nice accommodation at the Grand Canyon, right? One of those hotels or motels in the park or on the edge. Not into the canyon itself? I was there once, and it was really scary. Until I realized it was just a painting. Biggest painting anyone has ever seen, but still - it's not real.

Sorry to hear you are going to have to have surgery, but very glad you will then be fairly free of pain.

I vote for you going into rehab if your HMO will cover it - you can always save your family to come in afterwards for little things.

No,not in, at the Grand Canyon in the very finest of accommodation's. As soon as we have word of the date for surgery I'll start planning. Do you think I can get a train that will go to England and OZ to pick up some helpers? I'm not concerned with the European continent because we do have the Chunnel for transport to GB.

I do hope there is a train to England and to Oz. My husband goes off to London at least once a year, and always asks me to go along -- but 13 house in an airplane is more than I can even think about in comfort. Forget the Chunnel, too. It's *underground*!!!! I'll take the ferry.

That was supposed to be "hours" not "house."

The problem with the ferry is I get sea sick and that damn thing rocks, A Lot!! The only ones who would have to use the chunnel are those coming over the small pond from the continent. Of course since I'm the train director and major trip planner I have to make the entire trip to check everyone in. You are the lucky one, You get picked up near the end of the trip and dropped off early on the return. That's unless you're signing on as sewing instructor. I did think I will go to some fund raising type person to get enough bucks to pay for this trip. If it works for candidates, why not us. We are promising much more. We are a charitable group, looking to aid a friend in need. Oh, Liz we'll get you on the southern swing that's coming from wherever. Bobbie will probably want to come from Florida or SC or wherever she is and Emily will most certainly want to come along from Texas. Doreen we'll catch you in Alabama. J

Trains don't stop in Warsaw, Indiana any more, except by mistake. (When a north-south train does it, it cuts the town in half and there is quite a lot of traffic on all channels of the scanner. Especially if it's also blocking the only diamond between here and South Bend.)

But if you can figure a way around the law against stopping for passengers without a million dollars worth of platform, I can *walk* to the east-west tracks.

We can do anything we darn well please. We are the "ALT.SEWING GROUP" on a Mission of Mercy. Heck,if I can run a train to GB and OZ I can surely stop it in Warsaw,Indiana. J

Yippee! Long as we're going by the Grand Canyon to leave Beverly, could we plan to hang around there an extra day? I've never seen it.

Was I ever surprised when I called AMTRAK last week to ask about their schedule from Houston to Jacksonville, FL. They told me, would you believe this? Catch the train in Houston to Livingston, TX to Chicago, on to DC and down to Jacksonville. I love traveling by train and used to often go from El Paso to Houston through New Orleans over to Jacksonville and could even get a smaller one to Ocala where one DD & family lives. On the return trip, I went from Ocala back to Jacksonville, to N O and usually got off for a couple days to visit my siblings, then resumed the trip to El Paso, and sometimes on to Los Angeles, when DS was out there. I think it was called the Sunset Limited and was supposed to go coast to coast. I was so dumbfouded when given the new route, I just said, "Thanks" and hung up. I have to go online and find out what happened. Emily

Ok, while you were all having fun planning your mercy mission (and thanks for all the laughs), I spent the day watching DGD compete for the first time at the "intermediate" level. She did very well, placed in all five of her dances, including the Hornpipe, which she danced in competition for the very first time.

I have really enjoyed reading all your comments about the upcoming mercy...err...sewing....umm....sightseeing....err....train trip. How's about a fantasy league of some sort?

Ooohhh, I had not even thoguht about the transportation problem. I love my manual shift car, but I'm not sure how I'm going to get around if it takes 3-4 weeks before I can drive.

Good idea! I'll try to set it up so that I'm well into recovery by the end of April, then just proceed with my planned trip. ;-)

Trust Joanne to think of that possibility. Now I need to contact my insurance agent and change my beneficiary....

I can hardly wait, I've never been there at all. I didn't know it wasn't real....
