the one at the Mills? 3 huge floors of wonderful fabric *and* helpful salespeople? i need to take a road trip... that one is about 2 hours from my house. i tend to frequent Martin's & Fabric Fix in Manchester most frequently. the ladies at Fabric Fix are very nice. Martin's is hit or miss... the sales people can be great, but if you hit an off day, whoa! i've been shopping there since the late 70s, so i tend to ignore the bad days, but if anyone hit one on a first visit it might be very off-putting. lee

Kirsten, The store I mentioned, Buttons and Bows, was originally owned by Carol Laflin Ahles, author of Fine Machine Sewing, but I don't think she owns it anymore. I didn't mention most of the machine dealers carry fabric and some of it is absolutely fabulous. They are scattered around Houston and since I don't drive anymore, due to my health, it's difficult to explain where all of them are, but I can give you addresses and phone numbers of some, once you are here. What a great name!

I know one of the owners of Fields, and keep telling him to turn off the $%&* tractor beam. One time I asked if he was a practitioner too, or just an enabler. Dude wears boughten shirts; he doesn't appreciate it.

(Fields is based in west Mich, in case you're wondering or planning a road trip.)

Where is Martin's? After years of passing the Fabric Fix sign I finally checked it out. I pass through Manchester often, but only rarely without family and dogs, so I'd love to be armed with an alternate detour possibility. Liz

I'm sure that's it. I know we drove into Keene and as we neared the college we turned left a little before you turn to go to the college and it was at the end of the street. The place was huge and had a great remants table. I picked up a really pretty Waverly remant for next to nothing and madewindow scaves and a table runner for my kitchen. Juno

it's on Second St, & i think it's technically in Bedford, not Manchester. it's getting so built up out there that i don't think i can give good directions. i'm still expecting it to be a nice neighborhood of somewhat upscale 50s homes, & it certainly isn't that anymore! it was originally located where CVS is at the three way intersection, but they sold the turretted building to CVS & moved down the street toward Macy's (i almost typed Filenes), & it's in a big brightly colored box now. lee
