[OT] Neat thingamabob

I'm sitting here in my west-facing computer room, and really enjoying a little trinket I picked up at the Smithsonian last summer. The Smithsonian site is broken at the moment. It's like this:

I'm enjoying the little moving rainbows all over the room. I suppose I could have put it in the west-facing window in my sewing room, then this would not be OT. ;-) Beverly

Ooooh!!! That's really neat!! I will have to get one for my mom. She has all kinds of crystals hung in the windows. When I was little she would spin one of the prisms (by twisting the cord it hung from) so I could "chase the pretties." lol She will get a huge kick out of that. Thanks for sharing that Beverly!!

I hope she enjoys it. It's so fun because the little solar engine constantly turns the crystal and you can see all the tiny gears move. ;-)

We have collected cut chandelier crystals (many are antiques) for several years, to put on the Christmas tree. On sunny days, my entire living room sparkles and glistens with tiny rainbows. I put them all away after the season, so they are a special part of the tree each year.

Beware! If you have cats, some of them will chase the reflections on the floor, walls, make *ick ick* sounds at the ceiling, and possibly rearrange anything loose in the room.

I was given a crystal by a sock knitting friend, it hangs in our south facing window and the slightest air movement - no idea how they happen - makes it move.

Then we have 'fairies' dancing all round the room.

We used to have to make do with reflections from cups of tea and knives :-)

My older DD's family have a laser pointer they use to "exercise" their Golden Retriever. It's hysterical watching her pounce all over the room, trying to catch the little red dot. ;-)

I knew a kitten once who tried to chase the catch the football players on TV.
