OT: Prayers are needed

I am once again asking for your prayers, this time for my nephew and his family whose home was completed destroyed by fire yesterday morning. The fire Marshall thinks it was probably caused by an electrical short in one of the bedrooms. We are all very thankful, nobody was injured. He and his wife have three children, ages 13, 19 and 21, but they also have custody of three darling little boys, wife's cousin's children, ages 7, 5 and 4. Emily

On the way Emily......my house could have caught on fire the other day, DD5yo put her bedside lamp on the floor, took off the shade and replaced that with an Anne Geddies (sp?) bumble bee doll costume.....we left without checking the house and when my DH came home it was smoldering.......good thing there are flame retardant standards for toys. I hope all the little ones are ok! I never thought to teach my DD about fire safety, but now we are enrolling her in a program at the fire station.

All my best, Michelle Giordano

Thanks, Michelle. Actually the little one who will turn 4 in October, began crying this morning when he said he was sorry he burned the house. Nobody in the house smokes, so we have no idea where he got the lighter he was playing with. None of them were injured physically, they have a good insurance policy, which will cover much of the loss. You are really doing a good thing enrolling your DD in a fire safety program. All the years I taught school, we had a fire safety week soon after the first of school, firemen would bring trucks & equipment out and teach fire safety to all the kinder/first/second graders. Throughout the year, we periodically had fire drills, too. Emily

Scary! Prayers on the way - and hope that they were properly insured! And the insurance company pays up promptly.

Many fire stations have education programs. The best I know of is the one in Beaumont, TX where you can set up a birthday party in the station! DDIL did this for DGD's birthday a few years back. Wonderful way for kids to learn about firemen, trucks (picture of DGD "driving" a big one!) and fire safety. Including calling 911.

What a dreadful thing to happen. Thank goodness no one was hurt but losing all their life stuff is painful. Thoughts on their way from Australia.
