Can someone who uses Thunderbird to read Usenet newsgroups please get in touch via email? I can't figure out how to display them.
Also, is there a way to turn off HTML? I belong to several mailing lists that don't like HTML.

Please post the answer here. Er, um, would it still be on-topic if we're talking about how to get our mesages from "here?" Otherwise, sent an email to me, too, please? I have the same problem, and have been coming here online, instead.
On the menu bar, select Tools > Account Settings, then click "Composition & Addressing" for the account. Make sure that "Compose messages in HTML format" is not clicked.

Go to help, click on Thunderbird help then "step by step tutorial." Scroll way down to the line that says "part 8 Newsgroups" and follow the tutorial. Juno
