OT: Repairing bleached fabric

I have a denim dress with three bleached spots. Long story short, the dress was accidentally splashed with bleach. The spots are all one inch in diameter or less. Is there a way to dye such small areas of denim? I've looked at the Rit brand of dyes available at Wal-Mart, and the only color that comes close is a dark blue. I'm not sure this color would work on my dark denim dress, and I'm afraid the end result might be unsatisfactory. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm sew-naive but I was wondering if you thought about embellishing those areas. Even if you dye them I don't know if it would look even enough.

Fabric that has bleach spots is usually weakened. Can you cover the spots with appliqué to look like they really belong. Perhaps use multiple appliqués scattered on the dress to make it look like that's the style of the dress. If not appliqué how about an embroidered design. Juno

Thanks for two excellent suggestions. I'll be off to the Big Box today to seek iron-on embellishments.

Another option, if you don't find iron-on stuff is to get out the bleach and splatter some more on the garment in some sort of pattern or just all over spots. I did this with a pair of jeans and they looked fairly nice once all was said and done :-). Of course, DO NOT let the bleach sit on the garment for very long -- you don't want to rot out half of your garment!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

i had a small bleached out spot on a pair of blue denim jeans. I took a blue ball point pen and drew in lines to look like the threads some light some dark it all blended in nicely but has to be redone after many washings. Of course it was a small spot but you could try and then still go for appliques or embroidery embellishments.

If you're lucky enough to be able to find something like pantone markers that exactly match the blue, you may be able to do an OK job. However, the marker and the denim will fade at different rates and soon you'll have spots again. Overdyeing with something like Rit is less than successful, too, imho, mostly because the warp and weft of denim are different colors in most instances.

I'd suggest using the spots as a design opportunity for applique, embroidery, stamping, or more bleaching.

Oooohhh, how about "stamping" *with* bleach! ;-)

You can also stamp with cascade liquid dish washer detergent. It not as harsh as bleach. Someplace on google you'll find a site for instructions. Juno

Sharpie marker in a color that's close.

Clorex bleach pen - add design elements.

OOOO -- THAt is a great idea! It would be easy enough to use some sort of stylus to "draw" a design that incorporates the existing bleach spots and then just go over the "drawn" design with the bleach pen! When I did my garment, it was ages ago, long before Clorox came out with the bleach pen :-).
