OT: Reweaving the fabric of New Orleans

Ok, new thread.

You know, I still cannot fathom what happened. Saw all the videos, etc, etc. It was when I started hearing from friends about, say, Slidell being totally deserted, cars on the side of the road, etc, that it somehow started sinking in.

Go to the left one-third of the map, and you will see the river in a deep bend. It is why we are known as the Crescent City. Near the top of the semicircle you will see the word "Broadmoor". Directly below that is the word "Uptown", and to the right of it is "CBD" (Central Business District - in any other city it would be downtown - but N.O. is different). I am about halfway between the latter two words, and about a mile in from the river.

For those of you who have visited here, I am just over a block south of St. Charles Avenue, and 1.5 miles from the French Quarter, also the same distance from the Convention Center. This is the second oldest part of town and is built on a ridge left from successive river floods hundreds of years ago, which is why we did not flood in this instance.
