OT(sort of!) sheepskin

As some of you may remember, I make (among lots of other things) wearable farm art. It is for competitions held at field days in Australia and New Zealand. Two years ago I won the Australian National title and won a trip to new Zealand to compete in their comp. with a design called "Viva Las Vegas" A picture is here ( first picture)

have to be made with stuff found or produced on a farm. I have madeheaps of different designs and will eventually post pictures and have used, tractor parts, wire netting, wool bales, inner tubes, sheep poo (makeslovely beading on garments!) beans, wheat copper wire etc. etc.I want to use sheep pelts for the next one but can't seem to find any infoon tanning that leaves the wool on. Can anyone help or point me in the rightdirection? Thank-you........Amelia

Amelia, i used to tan skins at home 20 years ago. I used a product very similar to the utility tanning kit near the bottom of this page

you should be able to get thisat saddlery type places and hunting/gun shops.give yourself a bit of time, the process involves salting and storing theskins (for a couple of weeks at least, from memory) but if you follow thedirections, it's very straightforward and gives a good result. give me a yell if you need any info, I'll see what I can dredge up from my memory
