OT, utilikilts on tv

DOes anybody remember the long discussion about men in kilts and UtiliKilts?? I still have the lovely article that I was sent, complete with the gorgeous construction workers in their utilikilts, however I hadn't seen them on tv or anything......until this past week.

I am a Survivor fan, have been from the first edition, still not sure why...LOL. Well, this past week, Richard Hatch (the winner from the first show, and a more snake-like person I have never seen!) was actually wearing one during one of the challenges!!! Although I don't like him at all and think he should NOT have been invited to the all-star edition, I must say that even he didn't look bad in the utilikilt (well, most of the other time, he has been running around stark naked, so anything is an improvement).

Maybe his wearing it will increase sales and we will see them more frequently....on better looking men

Larisa, rambling as usual - putting off getting some more sewing done (started on a second pair of corduroy pants for DS simply because they were already cut and marked for sewing)

Patrick Norton, a co-host of The Screensavers on TechTV (cable channel) wear a utilikilt on the show now and then. At one point the producer asked him to stop wearing it on the air but fans got that changed

One of the Museums in NYC... I want to say Met. Museum of Art, but can't remember for certain... has an exhibit going on that's entitled "Men in Skirts". A lot of it is contrived, some of it is pure Hollywood, some of it is history/cultural.

But there *are* a UtiliKilt, an Amerikilt, and one other similar sort from the UK somewhere on display in the exhibit as well. (Scariest part was that I identified both the UtiliKilt and the Amerikilt from halfway across the room... correctly for both... and I haven't seen *that* many of either)

Kilts do seem to be making something of a slow comeback. With the modernization of them by new makers they're practical and comfortable. Looking at it logically, kilts make more sense for men than jeans that bind and chafe on important parts . Besides, these days almost all women are wearing jeans and when I wear em I almost feel like I'm cross dressing . There are quite a few kilt makers in the contemporary kilt market now and they are all making a living at it. Surprisingly, some are single individuals, like Bearkilts, rather than companies with employees. Their products are hand made and they keep prices down by using different fabrics, like polyester/viscouse, cotton and wool blends.

Men with buff legs...sigh. I was at a backyard party once, where a bunch of guys were playing bocce. It was summer, and warm. And all those men were very fit and had great legs.
