OT-vacuums

The only thing in the fine print on mine was that if you vacuum over area rugs, or delicate carpets (I guess berber could be called delicate???) is to turn off the brush so it does not spin. It says to do that so the rug will not become tangled around the spinning brush. Only time I have to worry about that is the fringe on the area rug in the dining room.

Ummmm.... It does adjust. It adjusts itself according to the height of the carpet. When I do the pile carpet, the brush sits higher in the vacuum. When I come in here in the office and do the berber that's in here, it goes down lower. It's not pulled anything off my berber, but it's not one of the big, puffy kind. It's more like the berber you find in office buildings....flatter is the only way I know to describe it. Also, the bristles on the spinning brush are softer than any other vacuum I've ever used. No matter what kind of vacuum you have, if it has a spinning brush you will have to clean long hair (or threads) out sometime. This is the first one that the bristles don't cut my fingers. They made the bristles softer so it won't pull fibers out of rugs.

We all have our personal tastes. And I'm glad you have a vacuum you like. Personally, I love my Dyson. It works well, and was well worth the money, IMO.

The one we brought home was a new model. It and most other Dyson models are not appropriate for berber (which is usually NOT a "delicate" type of carpeting btw) by admission of the manufacturer. If you Google "Dyson" and "berber" you will find a thousand warnings about it. And it is also in the fine print in new instruction manuals. It is thoroughly ridiculous to vacuum any decent amount of carpeting on suction alone w/o some kind of drive or propulsion. That is the kind of back-breaking work a vacuum cleaner is supposed to mitigate. Some vibration is also needed to jar particles loose so they can be sucked up by the vacuum.

Ummmm..... no it did not. On this model, the DC 18, it was not adjustable. Just because you know about one Dyson does not mean you know about them all.

I have berber style carpet on my hall, stairs and landing. It's been there longer than we've owned the house, so far longer than we've owned the Dyson... I wish the Dyson WOULD eat the bloody thing! But the only bit it's ever chewed is the ragged bit by the living room door where the edge was taken up to dry things out when we had a flood once, and it never fitted back down properly. The real destruco-mechanisms for that bit are a succession of mogs! The Dyson occasionally chews off a loose thread, but the rest of the ghastly thing is, unfortunately, untouched by 10 years hard labour by the otherwise awesome silver and lime green carpet dragon!
