Ot: What I did today

Every year, around my birthday (I'll be 75 a week from tomorrow,) my DH and I wait for a really good fall day and do something special. Today we went on the Walkway over the Hudson. You can find out about it if your interested.

I haven't done much walking lately, my knee slows me down, we wentabout halfway across and back. I guess we walked about 1 1/2 miles. Itwas absolutely spectacular. The weather was perfect, about 73-74, aslight breeze and very clear. There were and have been a lot of peopletaking the walk. When we finished we had lunch at a little restaurant that has a terrace that looks out on the river. Couldn't ask for a better way to spend the day. Juno

Sounds like you had a really nice day. Here we had the dullest weather, not exactly cold but the humidity made it feel unpleasant and no sun to make it better. I'll have to play that youtube thing to DD, she loves trains and knows how to imitate the whistle quite well for her age and given the fact that she hasn't seen a real steamtrain so far. Thanks for sharing. ;-)

I think she will get a kick out of the sounds of what I call real trains. Kids don't get much chance to hear or see them any longer. It was a great day today. We haven't had much in the way of good weather lately so it made the day even better. I wouldn't want to try the walk on a cold damp day. The wind comes off the hills an the west side of the river and can be very uncomfortable. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Juno

Happy Birthday, Juno that sounds like a really wonderful way to celebrate!

Interesting that the bridge was proposed (1872), and all the permits, and environmental impact studies were completed so that construction could commence just a year later (1873). My, how times have changed...

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Never thought I'd get to be this age or as involved in the world as I am if I reached it. When you think about the bridge it's an amazing feat. It's over 100 years old and in it's second life. AT no time do you feel that it might be a hazardous walk. there is no sensation of movement. It's just a secure felling. The fences are high enough to provide a feeling that you are safe. It was so great to see people pushing carriages and wheel chairs. Bike riders and dog walkers a lot of out of town visitors. Poughkeepsie is not exactly the garden spot of the earth, but it was such a pleasure to see so many people out enjoying the walk and the day. People here are amazed that once the work started to convert the bridge to a walkway it moved along as quickly as it did. Juno

Almost a Halloween child; LOL. I have a great niece born on Halloween and they named her Sabrina, but not for the Bewiched TV show; she was named for her Mom's best friend.

The walk sounds gorgeous; and also the lunch. Very romantic!

I was four weeks from my due date in late October 1970. DH and I were going to a Halloween party as (are you sitting down?) "Sharon Tate" (me eight months pregnant, with lots of bloody stab marks) and "Charles Manson" (DH). Gruesome! Thankfully, I went into early labor so I did not go, and DH went without me, he just wore a fake beard. DD was born on the 1st. I don't think I would ever have lived down the idiocy and extremely bad taste of those costume choices. :-(

Enjoy I do!. I've had a great life and hope to continue to have one for a very long time. Longevity runs in my mother's family. I am, however. far more active and engaged in life than either my mother or grandmother ever were. I think that a good attitude has a lot to do with longevity. I think I have an excellent attitude. I enjoy a good laugh, especially when the joke's on me. Juno

It's not that I wouldn't wish Juno all the best for her next half century, but in this case I thought I'd better be too late than too early. In Germany it's supposed to be bad luck if you congratulate someone on their birthday before the actual day. Guess it's got something to do with tempting Fate ('Oh, so you think you'll turn [insert age here] tomorrow? I don't think so... ZOTTT!' end quote Fate)

They sure are rare! Yesterday the temp was 25 degrees lower, cloudy and then the rain came late in the day. Today is cold, damp and rainy. As bad as the weather had turned yesterday, people were walking the Walkway. (We pass under it when we go produce shopping.) It has attracted a lot of visitors, for which I'm glad. the area need something so positive. On another note, my 9yo DGD emails me everyday to find out what I've been up too. When I told her about the walk, she wanted to know if her poppa had made a path across the river. We have a creek in our back yard she calls the river. I sent her the connection to "youtube" she was fascinated by the entire building process. Her reaction was "Cool!" Thanks for the birthday wishes. Juno

Hah! That's my cue! Now I can congratulate, too! OK, many happy returns, may you find all the time you want for sewing, the health to be able to do so, and the familiy surroundings such as that you can enjoy the free time (= may your DH be with you much longer).

U. - a bit late but not totally forgetful when repeatedly reminded. ;-)
