OT: Zipper no longer zips!

Hi, I have a nice pocketbook, but it no longer zips up. when the zipper is run, the two sides do not lock up/close like they used to, no matter which direction I pull the zipper.

I would like to salvage this if possible. And I would prefer to do this myself. Does anyone know a way to fix this zipper? Will it be difficult? Thanks!

Also: if this is not a good place to post this, can anyone recommend some other usenet groups or web forums/sites?

Whether it is fixable depends on what exactly is wrong, but when I have this problem, usually it's because the slider is loose. If it is a metal zipper, try pulling the zipper into the "unzipped" position, so that if it were working right, it would be fully open. Now, take a pair of pliers and gently squeeze each side of the slider, where it rides over the teeth. Don't crimp it too hard, or the slider will be too tight to slide. It's better to do this with two or three tries, than to squeeze too tight all at once. Then try closing the zipper as usual. If it works, great! If not, you may have to try something else, or replace the zipper. Anyway, it doesn't cost you anything to try this first.
