Pant pattern

I'd like to dust of the machine and make me some of them feral, hippy type pants. The one's that seem to come in various shades of purple/orange or green crushed velvet or tie dyes and only fit where they touch. Probably not in knit fabric. pull on or tie at the waist. Any recommendations for a basic pattern from the people out there who sew like they mean it? I live in Australia. Am a size 10 (english/aussiesizing.)

Thanks peoples!

If you have KwikSew patterns available, try 3345, 3314, 3271,3194,

2990, 3087, 2778, etc... All are sized for woven fabrics, not knits. I'm not sure any of them are "feral, hippy type pants." And I don't know what you mean by "only fit where they touch." If they are tight enough, they would "touch" everywhere! ;-)

Feral pants cannot be domesticated. They can often be trapped, neutered and chipped, then released into the wild. It is best not to touch without protective gear, because they can bite and scratch, causing substantial injuries. It is not recommended that you pull on them on tie them. Of course, crushing is out of the question as it is inhumane. Hav-a-hart traps can often be borrowed for a short time.

maybe Simplicity 4237? (not as gauchos! please!!!!!) or for *really* feral clothes, find a copy of the Illustrated Hassle Free Make Your Own Clothes Book:

Thanks for your help people. Yes, even including Joanne. Have bought a pattern (Burda 3216) and succeeded in taming some bronzy-khaki stretch velour into the semblance of a pant which, after adjusting the pattern length, doesn't drag on the floor and fits me at the waist. (This is a major achievement for me).Have made mental note NOT to sew with this stuff ever again. And yes I did use a stretch needle. Also made the discovery that the distance markings on my machine plate are only accurate if I use the left hand needle position.

Cheers, Fay Who hasn't yet thought of a witty quote.

Ummm I'd really like to proffer an opinion on this subject :) I have made six pairs of McCall's 2101 Style B and love, love, love them. I have made them in cotton, rayon blend, fleece and I have some lovely faux suede that I am tempted to sew into another pair... OK so it's the only pants I have managed to make without running into problems... I am skinny, have no derriere and like the flowing feeling of these pants. I think for anyone starting again on a sewing project, these are the perfect pants to put together.
