Patch pocket design

Last washday, while brushing lint out of the pockets of DH's Carhart pants, I discovered that the restrained double row of straight stitching on the back pocket isn't merely decorative: the bottom of the pocket is double, and the stitching secures the top of the partial lining.

But my pockets wear through at the top, where I rub them putting things in.

I just checked my ragged old jersey, which I kept in case of emergency, and the pockets are all in perfect condition except where the hem of the keychain pocket has worn away to expose the elastic inside. I'm pretty sure I have had pockets leak at the bottom, but none of them are still around. On the other hand, I've seen back pockets in DH's cheaper pants wear through just where these pockets are reinforced.

Double with denim (or whatever the shell is)? i've got a couple pairs of carhart jeans, and they've all had pockets lined with the pocketing the front pockets are made of.

My trouser and shorts pockets all fail on the front bottom left corner of the front right pocket, which is where my keys rub on them. The trouser shell eventually gets a hole there, too. When I've made trousers, i've reinforced that area. And I've patch almost all the ones I own...

Same as the main part of the pants. The pants are made of a fine duck no thicker than my pocketing twill, but coarser than the tabby-woven pocketing its front pockets are made of.
