Patchwork Question

When you are doing patchwork (quilts, skirts) do you have to square up the ends of the scraps? Make things perfectly straight?

Yes. And the corners have to be "perfect." Patchwork is fiddly.

Depends what style of patchwork you are doing. If it is of a regular pattern, everything needs to be lined up perfectly, cut to size, sewn with crisp corners and pressed carefully. If, on the other hand, you are doing crazy patchwork, then the answer is no.

Well, it depends on what sort of patchwork you are doing. If you are doing string piecing it does´t always matter if your strips slant from one end to the other:

you are going to subcut your strips into squares it is fairly important that you have parallel strips, but if you are going to sew your strips together along their lengths it is definitely very important.
