Pattern Alterations

I have now received two wonderful fitting books I ordered - one by Sandra Betzina and the other by Gale Hazen. Both do the same things, but the approach is slightly different.

However, I need help with just one small aspect from someone who has (hopefully) worked through the same problem. I am very short (under

5ft 2in) and have a rounded upper back - not yet a dowager's hump, but proceeding there I would think! I am also somewhat fleshy in the upper back, and have a short and slightly forward-thrusting neck.

The pattern alterations recommended are quite clear, but I am wondering if I should do the alteration to cope with the narrower than normal shoulder before I attempt the slash and spread procedure for the rounded back.

I should be glad for input please. I hope to make a prefit toile after I have made the alterations.

Merry Christmas.

Daisy.

You know what you're doing :) Go for it, but don't forget that muslin. I hate doing muslins, but when drastic alterations are required it pays off.

Thanks Trish. I have done a few muslins now - and am getting there. The upper back has proved a real problem because it is not actually rounded (yet), but I have quite fleshy shoulders and narrower than normal shoulders.

I did a small slash and then had to remove it! Then I had to raise the back shoulder at the neck edge. Then I had to take little teeny weeny folds in the neck at the front as well as lower the front neck. I am now onto my fourth prefit, and just today had my (very patient) husband help me make a croquis. He took the photos - and didn't laugh once at all the floobies, and wobbly bits I have!

Happy New Year. Daisy.
