pattern opinion, please

OKay, so I'm way ahead of the game here, but.....I have 3 costumes to make by the beginning of October. 2 have already been settled on (Simplicity 5520, view C and Simplicity 5517, view B). The dilemma comes with the adult costume.HUsband and child have made their opinions clear, but now I am putting it to you, a community of people who actually know how to sew!!

The patterns in question are: McCalls 4091, 4090, and 4107. Here is what has been mentioned:

husband likes 4091-B, 4090-D, and 4107-D child likes 4091-a, 4090-c, and 4107-B

Now, I know that "zski" does period clothing on a regular basis, and could offer great advice, which I look forward to. Also, Kate has done several plays and such, and i know that she would have some good ideas as well. Obviously, these do not need to be extremely accurate, so everybody is welcome to comment. Since I am ambivalent about them (I like all of them, personally!), I will take a tally of the opinions and make the ones that have the most votes. I should say that the costume will be worn to the Maryland Ren Fest at the begininning of October (one of the last weekends) and the weather can either be oppressively hot, or pleasantly cool.....not that that really helps, but there you have it!

Thanks in advance!!

Larisa

Those kids patterns are cute, but make sure they can have layers removed if it gets hot! Boiled brat is a foul thing!

Of the others... Hm... If you want the wench look (can be fun!), why not do as I did and use some of the ideas on the Elizabethan Costuming Page to draft a bodice pattern. If you look on my web site, you can see how I did the whole thing, and the URLs for what I used. Just as quick as using a commercial pattern, and cheaper!

Of course, if you were big enough that it wouldn't fall off you, I'd just post you the kit! WAAAAAY too big for me now! (Insert very smug grin due to having lost 33 lbs!). The Kit was made when I measured

44/38/49 and I now measure 40/34/44.
