Thank you Juno, yes, we are all on high enough ground to be safe. However, When they built this house, a big hole in the back yard was excavated in order to create a "daylight" basement. The ground slopes away from the house and water usually does not begin to creep toward the house until we have several continuous days of heavy rain. Right now, a small "Lake Ickes" is forming. :-}

The flooding is mostly confined to the "usual suspects": Rivers and creeks here which flood EVERY time more than an inch or so of rain falls in a hurry. Right now, the ground is so saturated that hillsides are giving way and sliding, and that is almost of more concern than the flooding.

I'm glad that things are OK for you. I understand the backyard lake thing. We have a small stream in our yard that causes a lake in our yard too. It has never reached the house but you never can be sure. We also get saturated ground in heavy or several days of rain, That causes water to come up through the floor downstairs. It's a common occurance in this area. today we have rain and sno w. That's never fun. Stay dry. Juno

I don't see you here. Wondering if what may have 'only' been a nasty cold or allergy has gotten serious . . . or if you've joined the Foreign Legion or something. Where and how is our BEI? We miss you. Polly

Indeed not! We have the worst sort of flooding when it has snowed a lot, then warm rains melts everything all at once.

My "lake" is receding. ;-)

I'm here, just really busy right now. The bad whatever-it-was finally resolved, I'm pretty much back to "normal". :-}

OK, I'm telling you now and I hope THEY won't get me. Yes, Beverly's been busy; not too long ago, she joined a secret intelligence service called FMC (which stands for Fabric Matching Controllers). The name says it all - under the pretence of being too stricken with 'whatever-it-was' to receive visitors or post at a.s., she roams the United States with a team of so-called cleaners, checking major warehouses, mail-order companies, boutiques, and clothes shops for mismatched pockets, fabric-covered buttons, and princess-seam garments. No mistake escapes their unerring eyes and heaven help those caught with not-up-to-standard items in their collection. Not only the contraband is confiscated and destroyed; have you ever wondered why so many businesses go out of business these days? Unfortunately, the FMC is, although highly effective wherever they show up, a rather small unit and so their efforts, praiseworthy as they may be, remain a futile twig against the vast flood of cheaply made prêt-a-porter. However, the fight goes on and we all should support them by wearing the (of course perfectly matched) Flowered Ribbon of Fabric Awareness. (Mail orders here:

Ursula!!! For a person whose first language is not English, you mastered the genre of satire superbly. Would that I could do as well... ;-}

That was wonderful, thanks so much!

P.S.: I recently acquired 'The complete Flanders & Swann' and I must say that they are an enormous inspiration. Can you imagine: I already knew 'The G-nu song' from Sesame Street and didn't know it was them!

I have been a F&S fan all my life. We also have them all. I may have been instrumental in introducing them to Ursula.

My favourite are the Sloth and The Gasman Cometh.

I love this version: >

Delightful! I just passed it along to my DGS, who adored LEGOs when he was little.

DH and I sing at least the chorus to this one quite often here in Oregon this time of year, usually while washing the dog. Still. Yet. Again.

The weather song is also a goodie:
