I wish to add my good wishes, too. Tonight's news broadcast was alarming, the area to the north and west of our Kate is inundated.

Give us a quick "I'm OK" please, Kate?

Luckily no! We're a coup[le of hundred feet above sea level on the North Downs: there's a nice sponge of a thousand feet of chalk under us!, soaking up all the rain. Even our 'lost rivers' are not flowing yet...

It didn't harm our party, either: monsoon like rain all morning, dry and fair from lunchtime on, so the party in the paddock was warm and dry, and we danced outside until midnight. :)

Yes, we're fine up here on the North Downs! Chalk country: drains well! :D

Tewksbury is bad, as is Sheffield... West Midlands is really the bad area. My friend's son in Reading got up and went too work to find his police station flooded (he's MOD police) up to the windows! Parts of the airfield are a lake!

I lived in Lincolnshire for many years, and around the Wash area. I've seen flooding 3' deep cover a couple of hundred square miles, but it's all old fen country, and soon recovers after the rain has gone. And all the older houses were built with 4' high foundations and had a boat hanging by the back door! These areas affected now are the drainage basins for a LOT of surrounding hills, and there's only certain channels for it to escape down, and the volume is incredible. I think they are discovering flood levels those parts of the country haven't seen for a thousand years!

Wow! I'm glad to learn you are OK, I'm distressed for your fellow Brits to the north.

Me to. It's not just the flooded areas that are affected. Round here they are worrying that the grain crops will sprout before they can be harvested!
