PING @ Ron Anderson (OT)

Hello Ron,

I always read in your signature that your address is Dingman Road. Do you know anything about the origin of that name? My dear old aunt, who isn't my real aunt, is named Dingemann, and has relatives who emigrated to the US in

1904; yesterday she told me that they called themselves Dingman when naturalized. I mentioned you and your address and it raised her curiosity tremendously, especially since her family seems to have lost contact to that branch. They have other relatives who emigrated in the 1920s with whom they are still in touch.

Ursula, I do not know the people personally but the name of the road was the name of the farm on this road the original inhabitants. Russ Dingman was the last one and sold off all the land back in the 1980's.

Sister in law is having a happy time tracing family at ancestry.com. Sometimes she hits, sometimes she misses but for the most part she's finding family and pictures and all sorts of stuff. I kind of doubt you have time to do vigilant researching but she surely is enjoying the venture. Polly

The town where I live is where I was born, when there were less than 2,000 people. Today there are more than 14,000 BUT you can ride along and a lot of the streets have the last names of the original people who lived here more than 70 years ago. There is a street named after my Mom's father (Chief of Police), my doctor (Mayor), father's family (the family cemetery is just up the road from where the old house used to be), and many others. About 30 years ago I wrote a short history of our town and it was lots of fun finding out some of the stuff! Barbara in SC

Speakng of street names....I live in Oyster Bay NY (southern tip) and when I first came here for a visit,(and eventually married a "native" and stayed :-) ) I noticed there was an AUdrey Ave, my name. Since this was such a small town then (62 years ago) I couldn't wait to find out who it was named after. She was Audrey Townsend daughter of one of the founding fathers here in the 1600's. Audrey S.

Well, as I just heard form my aunt, her uncle had only daughters, so I guess the Dingman in your address isn't related to her. I found out since that there are lots of Dingmans who migrated to the US in the 1600s, and that there are a couple of Dingemanns with a Dutch or Belgian background. Anyway, thanks for taking the trouble to answer.

Thank you. I was going to stop at a guy I know that was related but given the info you have I am sure the name is different now.
