plush problem

I need help! DDIL asked me to attach a name to a plush Xmas sock. The sock is *cheap* red plush with pile almost 1/4" that lies to one side. I have embroidered the name on a piece of white knit fabric, probably sweatshirt fabric. I embroidered with the fuzzy side out.

The problem is that when I lay the piece on the sock cuff it walks to one side. When I try to pin it goes woppyjawed, ditto if I try hand basting. The name piece is about 2.5" x 5". I used tearaway behind the name, then trimmed away the excess. Seems now that I ought to have left it so the d** piece might not move all over the place!

Any ideas? I can redo the name and leave the tearaway, of course, if someone thinks that will solve the problem. I was ready to throw the sock away and make a new one of some better fabric; not sure this would please the DIL.

TIA, Jean M.

Quilter's spray baste?

Maybe you could glue or fuse it on and handstitch around the edges with some hand embroidery thread? It sounds like alot of work though.......I can't imagine sewing that on machine without it stretching. Is there anyway you can put the plush on top so that the name tag is on the feed dogs instead? Do you think too much experimenting will ruin the sock?

By the size of your name tag I wonder.....is it a christmas stocking?

You could try a basting spray like Sulky 505.

Have you considered trimming/shaving the "plush" first?
