PRICING FOR BABY ITEMS - PIECE WORK

A friend of mine is starting a chidrens boutique and wants to know how much she should pay seamstresses for piece work. She wants to be fair in the pricing but has no real clue where to start or even if the price quotes she has received are pretty much in the ballpark. I have never sewed any baby stuff so I don't really know how to help her...

She needs at least 50 bibs, 50 blankets, 50 burp clothes, 50 applique onesies per month.

She will also need each style of her outfits in 5 sizes for the first installment and then she will need each size replaced as they are sold.

Her other questions were is it easier for her to supply the fabric to a seamstress or supply them with the patterns already cut. I know its a time issue. For me, I prefer not to cut the pieces because it can be time consuming. I do not do a lot of piece work and just started sewing full time since I have my full time job...I price my own designs based upon time, costs, and average pricing of similair items...

I second the recommendation to fashion-incubator.com. Where are her patterns coming from? There's *so* much difference in pattern quality between patterns made for ready to wear sewing and home sewing patterns, it isn't funny. Once you've sewn with a decent RTW pattern, it's *so* painful to use home sewing patterns -- and it's also contrary to the licensing of home sewing patterns.
