Repair - bevel gear / timing Singer 2112

Hi!

Anybody here savvy about repair?

My sewing machine jammed in use, and I found that the timing had slipped. I opened it up and noticed that the bevel gear on the horizontal shaft is turning freely despite the shaft. There is no set screw there - I think the timing adjustment is on the helical gear set screw elsewhere on that shaft (true or not?). So the bevel gear must not be meant to slip. Is there a torque-limiting clutch that can be adjusted, or is something stripped? I see several screws that might be adjustments.

I don't have the money for a repair shop these days, and I don't have the service manual, and the answer is not apparent, so I would appreciate any help that is available.

Thanks!
