Replace Hook Gear Set Singer T&S 758

I am needing to replace the hook gear set on the above mentioned machine. Does anyone have any tips, hints, instructions, etc. on the best way to go about this. I don't want to remove a lot of parts that don't need to be removed. I have read other places online that this is easy to do, but I haven't found any specific information as to how to go about it. Any help will be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Michelle

Is easy. Just look at it. the hook gear is 1 set screw after removing the bobbin winder actuating parts. The hook drive gear you must loosed the timing belt pulley and the long feed gear so you can slide the shaft to the right.

P.S> the nut on the bottom of the hook gear is left hand threads.

So it's "lefty tighty, righty loosey"? And, once again Ron proves his worth to this group. ;-)

Indeed!!! But I reserve the right to be the nut at the bottom of the newsgroup. :^P

That is correct. An awful lot of inexperienced people force it the wrong way and break off the screw end of the bobbin winder driver.

That certainly would have included me, were I attempting it.

I always have to stop and think which way Nikkor lenses screw off the camera body, it's the same non-intuitive way. What's up with that?

Ron,

Thank you so much for your explanation. I will let you know how it goes. Also, thanks for the heads up on the reverse direction of the screw.

Have a great day, Michelle

Can't say why a lens would be like that. On machines it is to counter centrifugal force.. If they screwed on the other way they could loosen with use.
