REQ: Corset Patterns

Hi there, I'm a long time corset lover and I'm looking, for the first time, to make my own corsets. I was wondering if anyone in this group would be willing to share some of their patterns with me (if anyone has any)? I've spent a long time (online & in stores) trying to find patterns and have had no luck. I love all corsets so I'm not at all fussy about what types of corsets I get patterns for. Thanks in advance for the help!

There's an online corset pattern generator

I haven't used it. The ones Ihave made were from patterns from the Amazon Dry Goods catalog and they cameout very well, also got my boning material from them. I'm sure if you did aGoogle for 'corset patterns' you will find plenty of information you canuse. I got quite a few pages of hits so I'm not quite sure why you weren'table to find anything online. Pretty much any costume pattern supplier hascorset patterns too. Val

Simplicity do some very nice Victorian corsets, and the Elizabethan Costuming Page

has an excellent Elizabethancorset pattern generator, where you fill in you measurements and printone out from it in your personal size... You can see how well I didwith mine on my web site. Both these are really for re-enactors looking for authenticity, rather than sexy dressing up type things.

Where were you looking? and what kind were you looking for?

Admittedly, most corset patterns I've found are for re-enactors, but Simplicity has had some decent goth-y corsets.

Laughing Moon has a couple of nice Victorian corsets. PastPatterns has corsets for most post-Regency periods. AlterYears has Renaissance/Elizabethan corsets.

Other people have already mentioned Drea's corset generator (it's Elizabethan).

If you already know how to put one together and what supplies you need, you might want to try making your own pattern with duct tape. It's kind of like making a duct tape dummy for yourself, except not as involved. I'm making a corset for my wedding and had a friend wrap me in duct tape from right under my armpits to my hips. Draw the seamlines you'd like, cut it up, then trace it onto a piece of paper and add seam allowances and there's a pattern made to fit you!

I've made the simplicity corset and the Laughing Moon one, and highly recommend the Laughing Moon one. The Simplicity one is ok, but the Laughing Moon is so much nicer. Make a mock up, find a friend to help you fit it and make some adjustments. They're a bit of work, but not really that difficult.

I also recommend farthingales, I got some stuff for my Laughing Moon corset there and really liked it.

I too was wanting to make a corset and got everything but the corset busks. Does anyone know of a good place to find these? I would rather go to a store than online (if i can avoid it. I prefer to see and hold the item rather then send for it) Joanns in my area doesnt sell them and im stumped where else to look.

TIA Tammy

You can find out everything you ever wanted to know about corsets and more if you search google for corsets from a historical costuming PoV. Like, search for victorian corsets, or elizabethan corsets. And so on.

For corset busks, search for historical costume suppliers. Here are a few that have tons of corset making supplies:
