Roman blinds pattern?

I've gotten some fabric, a freebie, and I think it would make nice Roman blinds for the bedroom.

Questions:

anyone have a good pattern or website with instructions? I've googled around a bit, but a lot of the info seems kind of complicated.

debating whether to line them or not... the fabric I have is heavy already, so I'm thinking no, but lined they would be warmer and more light restricting... ideas?

Thanks in advance, Barb

I used this pattern for my first roman blind. Worked like a charm. I did line them and all the blinds I have made since. I also used rings instead of the tape.

Cool! any other tried-and-true patterns out there? I'm still thinking of how I'll attach these to the wall, and how big a fold I'll need, given the length of the blinds...

After looking at the instructions, do they REALLY mean, in step 1, to add 30" (THIRTY inches) to the length?? That seems like an awful lot extra, and I can only account for like 20 of those 30 inches. confused....

I know it seems like a lot but by the time you calculate in hems and foldingallowance its pretty close. As I recall I added the 30 then adjusted as needed. I did end up making a large one for my kitchen window and it does get bulky when pulling it right to the top but I usually only raise it halfway. To hang it I screwed a piece of wood right into the wallstuds (its behind a cornice so no one can see it) and used velcro to attach it to the wood. BUT I added eye hooks (think thats what they are, screw on one end and circle on the other) into the wood at the same position as the cording. That way most of the weight is on the wood and not the top of the blind. They have been up for over a year now without any problems. I did line mine for a cleaner look from the outside.

The blinds were the first sewing project I tackled and it was pretty easy.

Good Luck
