Satin fabric

What would be the best thread (in machine and hand sewing) for Satin fabric please?

Also is there a special machine needle I have to buy?

Thanks Katherine

Dear Katherine,

What is the fiber content of the satin? Satin is a weave; if it's silk, then silk thread would be the best thread to use. If it's rayon or polyester, cotton or polyester thread would be appropriate.

Wow, I didn't realise there is so much different Satins.

Just read the docket - it says "Satin back crepe" Does that help?

Thanks Katherine

Crepe backed satin/satin back crepe just means the fabric is woven with a satin weave on one side and crepe on the other, so it is reversible. Could be silk, polyester, or rayon.

If you truly have no idea what the fibre content is of your material, and are gagging to know the only true way is to do a burn test. Pipe:
