school play costume help

i have to make two full-head masks of the type worn by Mexican wrestlers - so fairly fitting - if they're too baggy i fear actors may trip and fall over set. None of my home sewing books even begin to cover this. How would i go about fitting over the bridge of the nose, or even shaping for the head? I was thinking that lycra would be easier to fit but i'm a little worried 11 year old boys will be freaked out by the tight feeling on their heads! Any help gratefully accepted. gabriella

I would use the lycra. If you are worried about the boy's reaction maybe first buy some cheap and ugly lycra and try making them in different degrees of tightness. See where thier comfort zone is. Of course depending on how cool the masks turn out the boys might not mind a bit of discomfort.

Another idea is to get some knit ski masks if you can find them and just decorate those.

Hi Gabriella - I took the liberty to email you my mask instructions. I make super hero costumes all the time.

Thanks, Cynthia - that's a great shortcut idea - very creative thinking! I got the brilliant superhero hood pattern that M Devantier e-mailed me (thankyou so much!) and will try that first. Many thanks to all, gabriella.
