I wrote Babylock today and hoping to get a reply from them. I have an old B= abylock 5180 that has worked for many years with no problem (I purchased it= new many years ago). I tried to use it recently and the feed dog will not = move when the pressure foot is down. It works when the pressure foot is up.= I have done everything I know to do.
It works the same foot up or down has nothing to do with it. One thing that may be related is the pressure on the foot. There is knurled nut on the top of the bar the presser foot is attached to try tightening it (turn clockwise) . Other cause maybe it has been set to low so it does not protrude above the needle plate. Should be 1mm when the needle is at the highest point. Other than that time for a trip to the repair shop.

_____________ I've been mulling this over. Do you clean the space beneath the foot, down in the feed-dog area? use a small brush, and/ r pull a nylon hos= e over the end of the vacuum pipe, and clean the space well. Most of the older machines I bought which had completely quit running we= re packed with lint--some of them, a cup or more, tightly compressed, so th= at nothing moved. After I cleaned that space, oiled the machine, and insert= ed new needles, they ran well. C
