Serger Trouble

I was merrily putting a rolled hem on a mobcap when my serger went on the blitz. Three-quarters of the way through, I began to get uneven loops extending to the right of the hem. Replaced the needle, checked the threading, still inconsistent stitches.

Pull the threads tight in the tensions. Sounds like one or more worked its way out of the disks

Sounds like the thread came out of the tension disks, or they got a bit of lint in them...

First, de-thread and clean thoroughly - including flossing all the tension disks. Then oil. Re-thread and try again - TOMORROW! Never do this when you are tired or feeling frustrated!

I second Kate's advice about not working on the rethreading when your tired or frustrated. When i was having problems with my serger this weekend I must have rethreaded it at least 100 times. I would stop every time I felt myself getting frustrated and walk away. I have great patience for this kind of thing but frustration did happen. When the problem was solved I didn't know why. I only knew it worked after taking a nice little ride to the shop. They didn't know what was wrong either, but it works and I've been using it all day. Hang in there. You will get it working again. It must have been one of the tension disks being flakey. I took it to my local Bernina shop. While the owner was on the phone and taking care of other customers, I set up the machine. Looper thread came unthreaded twice. When I finally got it up and running it was fine!

Sometimes just getting someone else to LOOK at it fixes it. I've had this server for nearly 15 years and never had a problem requiring repair.

I will remember to clean and check my disks in the future. Thanks for the help.
