I bumped into this chart while hunting for something else entirely... a UK dealer that has tabulated features of various current Viking, Pfaff, Bernina, Elna, Brother, Babylock, Singer, Necchi Toyota, Juki, Fristar and Silver sewing machines.
LOL... this chart was obviously rigged to showcase certain machines over others. The info on the Berninas, for instance, is totally misleading and sometimes ridiculously bogus. For instance, the 200e/730 has over
850 stitches built in and nearly every single one can be reconfigured (and even reprogrammed) *on board* without plugging into a separate computer. Saying it has only 29 utility stitch functions is incredibly disingenuous. The chart maker is obviously selectively narrowing in on what Bernina calls "practical" stitches--- just one small grouping of maybe 10 different stitch groupings. And that's just one example. I didn't even bother with the other brands. Caveat emptor.
Apparently the page compares only machines they sell, and possibly they are pushing Husqvarna models over other makes. It's also about two years out of date. There's no Designer SE, and most of the Husqvarna lineup changed about 6 months ago.
That's one of my two local sewing machine shops. Very good place. I've bought two used machines from there, miles of fabric and thread, and other nifty sewing supplies. Very helpful staff, and the sewing machine engineers really know their stuff. They have the biggest selection of fabric outside London in SE England. Standard High street prices rather than warehouse prices, but not outrageous.
They do just feature the ones they sell, and are generally so busy in the shop that updating the chart is a lower priority. Give them a call, and they'll tell you anything you need to know about the current range. Here in the UK it's quite rare to find Husqvarna and Janome machines in the same shop: Janome don't seem to like the HV competition. I know several HV sellers that would also like to sell Janome, but Janome ain't playing that game! Bernina seem to be much more sure of their products being able to stand up for themselves, and several of the suppliers I know have both Bernina and HV machines for sale. And Phaff. :)
I'll try giving them a call after the weekend and see if/when they are going to update that chart: a new one with all the new machines on it would be a lot more use...
