Sewing Machine Thread Tension

Hi to all,

I have an 8 year old Jenome, ME4123 sewing machine. Unexpectedly the needle thread tensioner no longer works in either the manaual or automatic mode.I confirmed the problem was the upper tensioner by squeezing the thread between fingers just in front of the thread spool. I also replaced the needle, the thread ( both spool & bobin. In addition)and I cleaned the bobbin, bobin case etc.

How can I determine exactly what is the problem? Is the tension mechanism repairable by me? Where are Parts available? If I take the machine to a repair shop, what should the repair cost, approximately?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Did you test this with the presser foot in the down position? If yes did you simply try re-threading with the foot up? If yes to all those try looking between the disks for a build up of junk, try flossing with a thick thread or yarn, If that does not work best you see the repair person

Ron, Thanks for your response. Yes, I increased the tension by hand and proceeded to have a second person sew. It worked great. I did re-threading with all of the options. I don't know where are the disks, if any. I believe the machine is "electronically" controlled and don't have the foggiest idea how the tension is applied. Ken
