I bought a few old Elna machines and a Necchi - and revived them - with help from here - and internet research + Yahoo Groups ... I really hate to see good old sewing machines going into the scrap metal bin ! John T.

Have you cleaned and lubricated it regularly? Sounds like something has seized up.

NOTE: Do not use *oil* on the gears, use lubricant.

Well my answer would be to bring it to a shop it is well worth repairing and likely something very simple. Off the top of my head I would say a thread lock in the bobbin area but I have seen mice get in there and clog them up with all sorts of things the 5 pounds of raisins was my favorite
