Sewing shows on TV

I'd be interested in hearing opinions about which of the many sewing shows on TV are worth watching. I've seen some that (to me) are filled with good information. I've also seen some (by people with so-called "big names") that are just downright useless.

Hi Fred, I always watch the HGTV program "Sew Much More". The host sews everything from garments to slipcovers. I used to watch Sewing with Nancy also on Public TV, but she seems to focus on quiliting quite a bit, which I'm not into (yet).

First of all, let me just say these are MY PERSONAL OPINIONS AND DO NOT REFLECT THE OPINIONS OF OTHER WHO DON'T HAVE THE GOOD SENSE TO THINK LIKE ME........ :-))

I used to never miss Sewing With Nancy, years ago, she has great information and showed dandy tricks I hadn't seen anywhere else............and now she's a quilting show. Well, not exactly a quilting show but I swear every time I tune in she's quilting again. I know there's lots of quilters out there, I have two beeUtiful quilts made by dear friends whose quilting talent I admire and envy, but I'd just have to slit my wrists if I had to sit down and quilt, but then they think I'm crazy as a loon because I do tatting and love to sew Barbie clothes that would make Bob Mackie drool......to each his own.

I think America Sews is an infomercial disguised as a sewing program and Sewing with Martha is getting pretty repetitive. Of course I've been watching sewing programs on TV since there ever was such a thing. I remember coming home from morning kindergarten and eating lunch while watching the local Home Economist Lady on channel 5 sewing neato Mother/Daughter cobbler aprons and matching curtains and appliance covers...HEY! it was the fiftys!! LOL Sandra Betsina, or whatever her name is drove me to grinding my teeth. I've watched others and thought, geeeeeeeeeeeezus, did they even take Home-Ec or are they related to the producer. I have heard the ladies in some of the seminars I've gone to say these same programs were the best they'd ever seen and wouldn't miss a single one, so go figure.

Maybe I've just burned out on sewing shows on TV, maybe after 40 plus years I've seen it all or just got tired of watching. They were certainly great while I was teaching myself to sew and inspire me to do new things when I was starting to do some serious sewing. Now I'd rather tune into the Style channel and watch runway shows (Fashiontrance is my favorite) on new fashions to see what I can create for myself that will look good on a woman with hips larger than that of a 12 year old boy and toothpick arms and over the age of 15.

I think the best sewing shows are those YOU, personally, can learn from and enjoy watching.

I'm in Oregon and have Direct TV Satellite. I get Sew Much More at 12 Noon on the DIY channel.

Just found and started watching this week.

No we don't have the DIY channel here in Philadelpia. I mean the cable channels anyway.
