Sewing with DGD

This summer I have been doing some hand sewing with granddaughter and talking about sewing in general. She has been watching me sew on my machine. So today I got out the 1950's Singer (I had it professionally serviced) and she & I started threading it and sewing straight lines. She repaired a t-shirt where the side seam had come undone. We were both pleased with her results! So next Saturday she will start sewing on her first pair of shorts. When the temperature get too cool to wear them outside, she can wear them for pajama pants until she need to wear the long pants. We are both happy and the sewing machine will be her Christmas gift. Such a wonderful way to share the skills and the machine. My DGD who turns 18(!) tomorrow, has (on permanent loan) one of my Singer

401As and one of my Bernette MO 2-3-4s. She had the Huskylock 910, but she had difficulties with it, so I'm letting her test drive the Bernette which is a simpler serger (it was my first).

I love knowing my great-grandmother's, mother's and my skills are being polished by another generation. :-)
