I went into my sewing room this AM to make a pair of dressy navy blue slacks for an upcoming reunion. (55!!! Yikes where does the time go???)
But before any sewing could take place I had some clearing away to do, so I spent an hour folding patterns, picking up pins and generally tidying my space. For about the umpteenth time, I said to myself, "Self, you REALLY *need* to recover that poor 50-year-old sleeve board." And since the new covers I bought on sale at TSWLTH were on hand, I tracked off to the side. The new cover kit came with some nice felted stuff to keep the surface padded, but it was just a smidge short, and I like the ends to be well padded as well. So I cut off a few inches of 1/2" kapok cording, and used spray adhesive to keep it in place while I tightened the new covers. I also like the covers taut all along their length, so I "laced" them on the underside with doubled poly thread pulled tight and fastened. Now my sleeve board looks brand new, and I'm pretty sure it will last another 40 years.
The slacks fabric is rayon-poly-spandex, really dark smooth navy blue, and I pre-washed and dried it weeks ago. I re-drafted my old favorite slacks pattern for my slightly-more-svelte self, and tomorrow I will get them cut out and start sewing.
