Silly video

Our family has a long tradition of popping "Christmas Crackers" prior to our Christmas Eve meal. This year we got together at older DD's on the 19th for our gift exchange (working around work schedules is a b___h) and my DD found some with crackers containing whistles and sheet music. We, being a talented group, played for your entertainment:

Our dogs were keeping up the rhythm section with their tails. ;-)

Indeed!

It helped that DSIL is a music teacher, I'm not at all sure it would work otherwise. Next year we hope to put together a recorder group, the whistles were not all that well tuned.

It was we were all laughing uproariously!

I noticed that you can't blow the whistle if you are laughing -- or even smiling broadly. And it's the first time I've seen a conductor using a chopstick to conduct.

Too much fun!!!!!!!!!!! I love how intently everyone is watching him conduct. Very serious folks........seriously silly. ;)

Maybe you need kazoos for next year. LOL!

Nah, with kazoos each would have to know his/her own note. Not sure about you, but I could not hum a "middle C" if my life depended on it. I hope we can do it next year with recorders or something that provides flats and sharps.

I think, in keeping with all other things Celtic in the family, you should go with penny whistles.

You can get them keyed in C or D for really inexpensive. Or if you want to spend the large dollars, you can get them keyed in anything from A through G. (but those are a couple hundred apiece. C's or D's you can get for around $3- $5.) You all only have to learn the fingering for one note. Mike has about 4 different whistles. He hasn't played them for a while, but he said it's a VERY easy instrument to learn.

And I think everyone who has one ought to be required to wear a kilt to dinner that night. ;)
