Singer 306 W

What is a 306 W worth? I do not have a power cord, but the machine is in very nice shape. I believe it is 1952 (I am not at the machine). I do have the foot pedal, but the cord is not attached. Everything moves smoothly. I have some pictures if someone can help. Thanks.

may give you some idea on what others are willing to pay, or what other sellers are asking. What they are "worth" is anybody's guess. NAYY,

"Industrial"??? No, I don't think so. It's a domestic machine, and IIRC, I paid about $25 each for the two I have. It's a good sturdy machine, but it requires a non-standard needle. Some have been retimed to accept a 15x1, but that's not the way they're supposed to work. Also, the needle plate and bobbin cover are one piece which is a bit of an inconvenience to refill the bobbin.

Anyone willing to pay a couple or three hundred dollars for one should contact me ASAP!! ;-)

I have a 306K so I'm wondering in what way that model is different to a

306W?????

My 306K uses a non standard needle and refilling the bobbin involves tilting the whole machine back and putting the bobbin in underneath so I imagine it isn't too different to a 306W.

I paid about $40 Aus for my machine so that would probably be equivalent to the amount you paid in $US. My machine was complete when I bought it and in excellent condition and came with lots of dics with it and still does great stitching.

I've just had to have it in for a service and a rewire of the foot pedal though as when I went to use it and turned on the power there was a flash. Works like a charm now.

Same machine. The K is for Kilbowie, Clydebank in Scotland where there was a factory. The W is for the Bridgeport, Connecticut factory. Other than that, it's the exact same machine. The disks are flat ones, as you know, and the little "top hat" ones for the 401, etc., won't work. The flat ones do work in the 316, though. Nice machine. Can be treadled since it has the external motor. Strong legs required.

machine is

machine).

Everything

Thanks.

I do not know about worth or value ...

th-e-bay is where alot of people watch for such items and is probably the best bet for establishing some current value as it fluctuates alot.

However, as an amateur singer collector i can comment that it is not considered a *highly* sought or desired machine as alot were made. The valuable and highly sought machines (as in any collectable endeavor) are the rare and remarkable items.

Although not really rare it is remarkable in one sense and that is it stands near the begining of the evolution of the Singer ZigZag and decorative stitch machines.

I think, as someone directed to ISMACS, the value would be in a working and useable machine. It can produce almost all the utility sttiches one might need or want to sew most projects.

Restore it and start sewing :)

I would agree, Rob. I have a 306 ($25 purchase) and a 319 ($15 purcahse), the later model has several built in stitches. It uses the

206x13 needle system...not easily found in stores, but available on line but limited sizes are available. The bobbin case and bobbins are also a un-common type.

The machine has a cleated drive belt which is no longer available, so anyone considering this model should inspect it carefully to insure the drive belt is in good condition and that it has it's bobbin case.

I honestly do not use mine that much because of the special needle requirement.

Thank you for that information. I should have been able to figure it out as I knew about the factory's locations :-))

And you're right, it is a nice machine, in fact, a very, very nice machine. After it was serviced and fixed after the KERRRPHUTTT!!! episode and I put it back into service, I realised all over again just how nice it was and asked myself why I didn't use it more than I did. My New Year's resolution is to make more use of it.
