Singer Prelude HELP PLEASE!

If it's the last thing I do, I will become the next Martha Stewart. Just..without the jail time. /o)\ \(o/

------------------------------------- I recieved a lovely Singer Prelude from "santa", but to my great joy (sarcasm here) I dont know what kind of "Bobbin" to use, how to put said mysterious object IN the machine, how to open the machine, how to thread the needle, so on so forth. I have found the machine very confusing, and the manual has done absolutely NOTHING.

This is my first machine, and my first attempt to sew ANYTHING. Any tips, tricks, links, advice, ect. would be greatly appreciated and is very needed! Thanks.

What genius thought it was a good idea to give you a sewing machine without any input on your part??? Everyone here always recommends against "surprise" sewing machine gifts as each individual wants/needs/expects different things from their tools. It's like giving a guy a chain saw without knowing what he intends to cut with it...

:-(

Go back to the dealer where Santa Genius bought it, and see if they offer classes.

I cannot find that model on any of the bookmarked sites I have for threading instructions and manuals, sorry. Is it this machine:

??? Aaack, take it back, that's a toy, not a sewing machine. Beverly

Mini-Martha - Beverly is right - if that is the machine you've got... take it back! You will never be happy with it because it won't work right, you'll get frustrated and give up on sewing! Read this

(which was written by people on this newsgroup), take the money and go to a "real" sewing machine store (not Target, Wal-Mart or even JoAnns!) and look at the older, used machines. Take your own fabric, try out several machines. If you've got questions, please come back and ask them. Lots of us are sewing machine "collectors" so we have experience with the older machines. Good Luck!

I'm an absolute beginner, but my Brother came with a DVD showing the new owner everything: from how to wind the bobbin, thread it, use all of the features of the machine and sew a seam.

I'm kind of surprised that Singer doesn't have a DVD in the package; call their 800 number and see if they can help you out....

If she calls Singer they will tell her that is a TOY machine for little girls that does not function properly. Take it back, get a refund and go to a reputable machine shop and take classes. You've already confessed you know absolutely nothing about sewing, how to thread a machine, what type of bobbin to use, etc. Your dreams of giving Martha Stewart competition in Domestic Diva category will sorely be challenged until you can learn how to operate and maintain a machine. When you've learned the basics you should be able to pick out a sewing machine YOU will like and want to use.

When you get home from returning this piece of junk, tie up Santa and run him over with the sled a few times.
