singer touch and sew 626

------------------------------------- Marion

My sister has a touch and sew 626. The needle will not move and we feel that there is thread in the bobbin case causing this. While trying to check this out we lost what i think tis the bobbin tension screw. Where can i get this replaced? Also any suggestion on how to get under the bobbin compartment to check for threads?

A loop of threafd in the wrong place, like around the hook, can certainly bring things to a halt. You will just ned to duck and weave around a bit to find it. A strong light source can help as well as something like long nose tweezers and/or a dental pick.

the least invasive .... you can do to get better access to the bobbin case area is to

- remove the needle plate ( just slips out ), and

- remove the sliding bobbin door/plate which will just slip out/off (***BUT** it is a bear to get back on because of the flat spring that that holds the plate down), then

- remove the bobbin case which is just held in place by the little black spring and holder on the left front of the bobbin case area . the spring and its holder just slip out. there is a little bent tab on the top that you grasp with your fingers and just lift it up a little bit, you will feel a springy push back at your lifting, then at the same time as lifting you move/slide it to the left so ....that is lift and pull/slide left . It should slide out and now the bobbin case will lift right out of the hook assembly.

now you should have a good view of everything you could need to see in the bobbin case.

I am guessing you lost the "Tension Spring Screw" because you thought that screw is what was holding the very loose bobbin case down ????

You can order them online (Ron was suggested) or you can get a new bobbin case for a touch and sew which is an alternative fix.

If no thread is found and none of that made any sense then i would not attempt to try my suggestions , maybe just take it to the repair shop.

Another possibility and i hope this is not true for you is the hook gears have something lodged in them like a big wad of thread or worst the plastic hook drive gears have begun to crumble and one of the broken gears has locked up the machine. You pull teh bottom cover off the machine to see these gears.

Here is a great site devoted to Touch & Sew machines. Terry has quite a few parts diagrams and other useful info on this site:
