Single Head Commercial Aemco Machine

I purchased a single head Aemco machine in order to rutinely put in a straight line stitch onto leather which will be a decorative design on chairs which we sell to the dental and medical industries.

I was told I should use nylon thread, 40 wieght soft, and topstitch leather needles. I have a problem with looping and the thread getting caught up under the bench on the foot (somehow).

I was having a lot of fraying by that decipated after changing the needles. I am trying to tweak the machine so it will work flawlessly and continuously. I am having trouble adjusting the tension. I bought a book but it was not that good on technique.

Can someone guide me with Rules of thumb of how to adjust the tension and what to look for when troublshooting?

Thanks,

Dave
