Slinky knits

I don't think I'd dare ride a bike round our country lanes! we have narrow winding roads, sharp corners, 10@ and more high hedges, and in some places the trees meet overhead and turn them into tunnels! Some of our local roads are narrow enough to have a grass strip up the middle... and a tarmac strip for the wheels! the grass tickles the cars tummy as you drive along! The roads are also used by folk who think that they HAVE to drive along at 60 mph, or 80! And combine harvesters in July and August, and tractors pulling trailor loads of apples at this point in the cycle.

And muck spreaders...

Well, it seems that Scotland is running low on inhabitants and has sent someone to Canada to lure expatriate Scots back to the homeland. It's not Kent, and I've reason to believe the weather can be harsh, the terrain demanding, and the cuisine a bit narrow -- but there's an opportunity perhaps. ;-)

*I'd* go home like a shot if DH could get work there! Trouble is, in the more remote bits that I *want* to live in, James would end up going to boarding school, and I'd hate that. So for now we'll just perch here on top of the North Downs in Kent, and he can go to the good local boy's grammar school.

Only if I have a death wish! I use to ride my bike everywhere. The car traffic here aboout is so bad that You are truly taking you life in your hands to ride if you want to go somewhere. We have 2 main roads and both are unbelievablely bad. DH use to run these road until he and his buddies came very close to getting hit a few times. They moved their route to the village. The trouble with the village is that it's five miles away and doesn't even have a grocery store. That's on the outskirts. The store that hassewing supplies is on the busier of the 2 main roads. I'll wait until I'm going in that direction to stop for what I need. Juno

See the cycling-costume thread :-)

I once rode from Voorheesville to Clifton Park just to buy a spool of thread.

(Well, it was *really* to see whether there was anything in Clifton Park worth the trip -- but I did need the thread.)
