small aggravation with fabric

I'm sure most of you remember that my choice of fabric for a spring coat has been modified to a sage green twill and the fact that I don't have enough of the green for the coat. So I ordered a pretty blue from Fabric.com. Turns out they don't have it in stock and I can't find anything else I like on their site.. We had to go down to the Physical Therapist's office today for DH, so while out I thought we should go to Joann's and see what they have. Wahoo they have a great fuchsia heavy denim so I bought it for "the coat." DH is feeling much better, his vertigo is receding and he said he thinks he can do some tissue fitting for me in a few days. So I should be on my way to bore you all with my great coat adventure. I had lemons and now I'm going to make lemonade. Juno

Last week, I was plundering through the sewing closet where it was warm, I came across a jacket I started probably 20-25 years ago.

It is nice green gabardine and lined with a white all-over design of bright pink/blue flowers and leaves the same green color as the jacket. It only took a couple seconds to figure out why I'd never finished it; the lining was cut uneven and there was about 2-inches short on one edge of the back lining to about 1-inch on the other edge.

I dug through my scraps and found a strip that doesn't exactly match up to the design, but it's close. I think it'll look okay, since it is at the bottom across the back of the lining. While wearing it, I don't think it will be noticeable.

I finally got new lenses Tuesday that are the correct ones. I was able to read the newspaper yesterday and started reading a book, and no headache. YEAH!

I plan to finish the project today. I want to wear it with navy slacks in DC, when I go to my DGS's college graduation in mid-May.

Why not go for the palest jade green, like this:

for the lining? And large mother-of-pearl buttons. Ah, flights of fancy... ;-) U.

My sewing room is really warm too, it sits right below the furnace. lol I have been spending a lot of time in there lately. Not really doing anything just hanging out. lol

As my mother would say "no one will notice it on a galloping horse." ;) What about a contrast piping? I saw a RTW jacket a while back. Really lovely coat. Black outer shell. Floral print lining. Then around the edge of the lining, between the facing and the lining, and at the hem in back, it had a bright red strip. Couldn't get a close enough look to see all the details. (the woman wearing it might have objected to me tackling her and stealing her coat; so I had to content myself with observing from a slight distance as she twirled it around to put it on.) But it was either a fairly substantial piping or possibly gimp. Was a cool idea though, that we can steal and run with. ;)

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm soooooo glad for you that you have workable glasses now. :)

Ooooh!!! Won't that be pretty.

What a great color!!! Good suggestion, Ursula!! Then, Juno, you would have your green in there too. I really like pink and green together. It's so springy!!! (and I need some springy!!! Did I mention -13 when I got up this morning???)

I'm going to use the lining I bought for the floral fabric. It's very bright and may cause visual disturbance for some people, but what the heck it's a lining

I haven't picked out buttons yet. I have so much going on in my life right now that the buttons have to wait a week or two. Juno

Hooray!! Glasses that work for you. What more can you ask for. The Jacket is pure serendipity!

Try to keep warm and find a jacket that needs just a bit of work. Juno

Or, you could select a completely different fabric either print or plain (same fiber and weight), to complement the original, and call it a "design feature"! ;-) Make a pocket hankie of the complementary fabric, everyone will think you are channeling Coco Chanel.

That is wonderful news, Emily! Wear them in good health.

"China Silk Polyester Lining Neon Green" Now there's a misleading description if ever I saw one! Probably the only thing "China" about it is where it was made. And calling 100% polyester "Silk"??? Bah!

Don't get me wrong, it's a gorgeous color and I use 100% poly or Bemberg rayon for lining all the time, but really, calling it "China Silk..."???

That should work fine, since the buttons and buttonholes are usually the last thing done. Have fun with it. I'm glad your DH is feeling better.

Glad you like the color. You don't believe in The "Ether Bunny" either do you. No fooling our Beverly.

Thanks, Beverly, for the idea. I'll think about them tomorrow.

It has a Nehru collar and I plan to put navy frogs to fasten if I decide to close it. The collar is already attached and looks good, the sleeves are sewn in with no puckers, and the front is finished. All it needs to is to add the small piece on the back lining, sew the side seams and hem.

I am usually a very 'private'' person and not the type who takes photos of my sewing projects, but maybe I will relent and post a couple of this one.

Me too, so I prefer not to disturb them to often. Let sleeping dustbunnies sleep is my motto.
