snowy day browsing

Since the weather is absolutely abominable I decided to do a little snowy day browsing. I found this site and thought it would be a good idea to pass it along. The wools look to lovely. I don't know if it's a new site to anyone else, but i enjoyed looking.

I thought everything looked so good. It certainly brightened up a day of horrible weather for me. I was looking for wool crepe but fell in love with colors of the silks. I thought the tartans would be of interest to the kilt makers and future kilt makers. I don't know if they're authentic but they are good looking. Juno

They don't have to be authentic tartans, especially for making a practice kilt. The first one I made was from Pendleton wool. Nothing authentic about it, especially the selvedges, which on a real adult's kilt *are* the hem. The Scottish mills produce a selvedge edge which has tight threads and follows the sett exactly. The Pendleton selvedge introduced some extraneous colors for some reason, and a few of the carried threads were very loose. Fine for a child's competition kilt, because you plan on a hem which can be let down later. But for an adult there is no turned up hem.
