So, have you all got lost in the spam soup?

No new messages here for days... Tried setting up a filter, but it broke down and I had to cancel. Not had any sew messages sine 4th August...

Well, I can give you a status report...finally got the lining done for my patchwork jacket and am kicking myself for letting it sit so long. I think I put it off because the lining fabric is a bit slippery and not my favorite stuff to work with. I decided to tackle it last night and got the bits put together and half of the pining to the jacket finished. The jacket WILL be done today and ready for entry to the county fair. I have a cute little apple print fabric cut and ready to be marked and stitched up into the girl's half of the mother-daughter apron set (this is also supposed to be an entry into the county fair as well as part of my new line of business ideas).

My plans for today are actually as follows:

-pick up tags for county fair items

-go by local food bank with donation (we are teaching our children about tithing and my daughter decided that she wanted to give her money to the food bank....plus, it's just down the road from where I have to get the tags)

-finish patchwork jacket

-mark and start sewing on the 1st apron

-haul out bins of quilting cottons and misc. fabrics for MOPs meeting on Monday

-make templates for the same meeting

-re-price most of my current inventory down to clearance levels

-get decent digital pics of my work for use as a slideshow during the upcoming fall craft fair

Somewhere in there I should probably have lunch and get dinner prepped (pork fried rice, which for some reason the family loves to pieces...almost as much as the pork egg rolls from scratch!).

I am already filling up the schedule for after the children go back to school, so it's forcing me to look at what can feasibly get completed in the time between now and "show time" (what hubby and I call it because basically, I'm putting myself in the public eye to be judged as either worthy enough for them to spend money on my creations, or needing to go back and re-tool my ideas...lol).

Right now I'm looking at 2 meetings on the same day, but fortunately 1 is in the morning and one isn't until after dinner...I just have to make sure that the outcome of the first doesn't color my attitude about the second.

I also have to take some time in the next couple of weeks to get accurate self-measurements so that I can get to work on my fall clothing. I have some decent things, but I'm in the process of trying to make a more cohesive wardrobe, choosing to focus around 3 main colors. It's not as easy as I had thought, but I'm going to keep pushing myself to actually work on it. I know I need some more slacks that fit properly (favorite pair just needs to be taken in at the waist, but I can't bear to mess with them because they are kick-butt awesome and I'm afraid that I'd mess them up), and probably another jumper and 2 longer skirts. After that, it will all just be extras.

Oh, and of course, there's the annual family pictures...hubby decided

9after I finished DDs civil war outfit) that we should do the Wizard of Oz....crap and double crap. So here it is, August, and I haven't started on ANY costume and we usually have the family pictures done in October.....

There, Miss Kate....is that enough of a sewing-themed message for you?

Not much news from me. I got a lot of mending done before we left home for vacation and now I am in Florida, 9 hours south of SC. We are considering going to a beach close to the space coast in a day or so. Just a day trip, but I enjoy going to the Poncho Lighthouse and the small beach close by. Dogs can play on the beach---yes, we always clean up after our daushund. We will probably go Monday, but don't know for sure. Barbara in SC and in FL during the Winter

Barbara, I've only been to Florida in the winter and wonder about the weather in the summer. Is it hot or do the ocean breezes keep you cool? Are you talking about the Cape Canaveral National Seashore Beach? We went there several times. It's a beautiful beach. I have several pictures of handmade kites being flown there. I met a Gentleman there on one of my trips and he and his wife were flying several kites he made. They were so pretty. I hung the pictures in my cottage. I have one bedroom there that I have decorated with kite related objects. Juno

You're speaking of the beach at Titusville or on the Atlantic, anyway. But speaking of lighthouses, have you seen the new 44-cent stamps of the Gulf Coast ones? DS bought 2 sheets last week and I like them so much till he has promised me to get the poster of them, all framed for my sewing room.

Speaking of sewing, I used Larisa's directions this time for the crib sheets, and it was much easier than the method I've used over the past

24-years. I finished one, and have 2 more to finish today.

Thanks Larisa! Emily

The beach I went to was on the Atlantic, You go through Titusville from the south, and out a very long causeway. We drove there one time to find that we couldn't get out to the beach because there was a a rocket launch scheduled. I agree with you about Larisa's method of making crib sheets. It's so easy. Perhaps she'll post it again so that anyone looking to make crib sheets can give it a try. Can you do that Larisa? Juno

Spam soup is the right term for it. At home my filters are fine and I don't see it much at all, but I am away on business and having to read via google groups (pause to wash mouth out with soap) and it is just AWFUL!

I went to eternal-september to try to get away from the spam. But the site doesn't tell one (especially a computer challenged one) how to use the site to filter out all the spam. Does anyone know? I hardly come here anymore because of the garbage.

If you first get Mozilla Thunderbird, then sign up for eternal-september, the site filters out the spam before it reaches us. I found that the actual signing up with e-s was a little tricky, Samantha Hill finally walked me through it, but once I was all set up, I get very little spam. Still a few pieces here and there, and a few cross-posts, but not enough to upset me.

Oh, I must try that! Been off line for a couple of days and am not at home now, so it might be a good thing to do as the real stuff is not easy to finds in the fog!

This AM, one spam was briefly downloaded, and quickly disappeared with "message is not longer available on the server".

eternal-september.org ROCKS!
