Spoiled dog alert!

Younger daughter and her husband don't (technically) have children. They have an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel female, named McKenzie. They are going on a car trip in November to Vancouver Island, and expecting lots of rain. Natch, right?

She has asked me if I can make a dog rain coat. She linked to this:

She wants a four-legged coat made of slicker fabric, lined with light-weight cotton terry.

I have knit a dozen doggie sweaters (for my cockapoo and Shih Tzus), this is a little out of my area of expertise.

I'm not crazy about that pattern link. I could probably just take lots of measurements and draft something, but can anyone point me to something better? Or does someone here have a doggie raincoat pattern I can purchase?

Thanks!

Given that this breed is a small version of a gundog is a coat really necessary? Generally in the UK (where the climate is very similar to that of Vancouver) only breeds of dog with very short hair (greyhounds & whippets) wear coats routinely.

Just my two penn'orth.

A couple years ago I was in WalMart and found a raincoat when I was shopping for a warm coat for my dog. He prefers the sweater for when it is cold, but the rain coat was unnecessary since he won't go out in the rain and get his feet wet and Reese won't wear boots. Barbara in SC

I wish some one with some real experience with soggy dog would chime in here. Our Yorkie - who has Very uppity AKC papers has the restriction that he can not be shown. He is a 'woolie' meaning his coat is triple heavy much like a red-haired stepchild. He loves water; heads for the deepest rut in the lane so he can really get soaked. I 'think' we could keep a Chihuahua warm and somewhat dry - but a Yorkie? I am eager to see what success Beverly has with a spaniel. I'm thinking they think water is big fun too. Polly

I have seen the doggie rain coat pattern in either McCall or Simplicity book. Don't remember which. Barbara in SC

Reese is a Chi & Winner dog mix. He is brown and looks more like a Winnie dog with legs about an inch longer than they are supposed to be! He looks like the Winnie dogs on Greeting cards and that is what he sends me for my birthday. I love the Yorkie dogs, too. A couain has one. Barbara
