swimsuit elastic band

my swimsuit still looks good, the fabric is blue with black print.

3 days in a Spa dipped in well doing water(sodium, yodium, kalium etc.) good for my bones but not for the rubberband. Well I try to replace it, I've got the same, new one. It's really a very intensive job. My problem is not to open the seam, but the old rubber band is on some places cooked to the fabric. I have tried the a razor blade, but still it is not completly gone.

Have someone an idea how to take it of? I think to scrape it out, maybe with an erease rubber? If I loose my patience, the next possibility is the trash bin? LOL.

What do you think? Suzan from Amsterdam

Once it's cooked to the fabric, that latex type swimsuit tensioning tape it's almost impossible to remove! ARGH! What a horrid job! Only worth the hours if it was a very expensive designer type swimsuit! My personal take is that if this was a cheap and cheerful chainstore cozzy, ditch it and replace: you time and good temper are worth more! If it was an expensive cozzy, it may be worth saving, and you are on the right track with your scraping job: just be VERY CAREFUL not to nick the fabric with the razor blade!

swimsuit elastic band Suzan, try sticking the bathing suit in the freezer for a bit. (You can put it into a plastic bag first), The elastic ought to get brittle enough so you can pick it off easily, but this type of gum removal does take time. Cea

P.S. If you give up on the booger pickin', save the bathing suit and make a pattern from it. Cea

idd, this was my first idea, make a new bathing suit, using this pattern and make a new first the pattern than a nice black bathing suit, the fabric from a pile in my cabinet is waiting for 2 years now. The blue one was not expensive, but I see it like a challenge, if there will be any damage using the razor blade, than there is not much disaster at all , I wouldn't regret. Only the time I spend on it that is the time I had to spend with my quilting or something else i.e. reading your messages and that keeps me going.

Thanks everyone. I will first try the fridge. have a nice day it's 6.30 am here now and your day just begins.

If you copy this suit, make sure your new fabric has the same stretch as the old fabric. Or you might have to alter the pattern to make it fit right.
