Swirl Skirt

Finished!!!

I am not the sewist many of you are, and I had a little trouble with this pattern. I ended up doing it on the serger, but it was a battle. I had a fairly sheer woven poly.....maybe that was the problem.......

Rolling the hem was a living nightmare.....every time I came to one of the many seams, the serger would try to run off the edge of the fabric. I ended up "re-doing" several spots.

If DDIL loves it I may attempt it again. It is very attractive......but a PITA for my skill level, which is intermediate at best.

But you did it - and learned a lot on the way! :) Some sergers are better at not dropping off sheers than others. Seams are often a problem. I find a 3 thread hem sewn with a slightly longer stitch and done a little slower can help.

Pat, if you do end up making this skirt again, why not hem the edges before you seam the skirt? That would eliminate the issue of jumping them, perhaps.

Great idea!!.....come to think of it....as you sew each gore you could continue past the seam and do that section of the hem.....

Now why didn't I think of that! LOLOLOLOL on me!!

Thanks for the tips.....I will try the stitch tips too. So much of the seam is bias that I am sure it pulled away from the foot once it hit the knives....... Live and learn!!! Easing R us on this thing.

I have a swirl skirt pattern from Simplicity (#8800). The instructions suggest hemming before seaming. I have never made this skirt. It is dated

1994. I may sew it up this summer.

That's a pretty one, too. I made one for me out of 3 rayons (didn't have enough to use only two, couldn't find a fourth that went). I wore it once, and my teenager saw it. I've not gotten it back yet. It's a nice summer skirt. I didn't hem before seaming, but I hemmed each section as I sewed it on to the next one.
