Sure is quiet around here when Beverly is out of town.

A thought, and not a good one, from a lurker.

She's baaaaaacccckkkkk! ;-)

I am not allowed into the dressing room area, so DD took a couple of pictures for me of DGD in the new kilt. I finished it at 9:30PM on Friday, (the darned fiddly hand work always takes way more time than I estimate it will) and delivered it to them Saturday AM at 7:45AM.

I had re-set all my clocks for daylight savings time, but failed to get my alarm on the correct 12 hours, so my alarm didn't go off. I awoke at 7:15, horrified, as I was supposed to be at their place at 7:00. Jumped into my clothes and made a mad dash across town, we left about 30 minutes late from Portland, but arrived in plenty of time for DGD's first dance. Whew. DGD placed *first* in one dance and second in three, her best competition as a Premier dancer, so it was a very successful day.

We drove three hours through a MONSOON getting to the venue, then another three hours through an even worse storm getting back home. I had another event on tap today, so I'm just now checking newsgroups. I do wish you all would keep up your end of things when I get busy. ;->

I am very happy DGD did so well; tell her I send my Congratulations. When will some photos be up for us to see? Not anxious, am I?

That toothbrush in your purse paid off, then, didn't it? ;-) You certainly made a good recovery from that start, and DGD did her part. I hope that you left the monsoon in the northwest, as I'm just starting to thaw out here, and don't need another storm coming down on us here. Not yet. Please.

Oh, and welcome back.

Patience, Grasshopper. I do have pictures, I'll get them up soon.

I have to spend the next couple of days getting an area in the garage cleared to store 1000 square feet of hardwood flooring, which is on a truck wending its way here as of today. My darling daughters and sons-in-law are going to install it this summer. YIPEE! I'm finally going to get rid of ALL the carpeting.

DGD really did an outstanding job. She is usually very nervous about the Sword Dance, but she aced it. We stopped at an Olive Garden for dinner, a special treat.

Ok, if you insist. The weather this year is just really strange. Today it hailed hard enough and long enough to leave the roads and grass covered in white. And we had thunder and lightening (uncommon here). It's MARCH, dammit!

Thanks. ;-)

Oh, sorry, it was not my intention to run everyone off. ;-)

List? What list?

Now you are accusing Kate of stealing livestock??? Tsk.

Quite enough livestock here already. The bunny-hunting season has started...

That's good news! One of the things I love about my house is the wood floors. They're not in great shape, probably could stand to be sanded and sealed, but even in this state are so much better than icky carpet. Especially with cats, and an iffy housekeeper. ;-)

Our weather has been strange, to say the least. But it's now warming up, though blowing pretty hard, and my wild violets are in bloom.

My friend in Costa Rica is being shaken and stirred - lots of big earthquakes down there. I prefer the strange weather.

Genuine question - why do you not like carpets?

We have ceramic tiles in some rooms, realistically for easier cleaning, like the study/workroom, kitchen, entrance hall and bathroom, but I'd struggle with the idea of going completely carpetless.

Yes, but if you've got a wooden floor your lack of enthusiasm for cleaning will be disclosed to the general public much sooner. (SCNR) ;-)

U. - Had carpets in my old place where the outside won the struggle to get inside and many a half-eaten mouse adorned the flooring in the morning, but married into a house with parquet flooring which spurred my housewifely ambition a good deal. ;-)

I'd love to do it... I've only lived two places without carpet, and my allergies were *so* much better without the dust mites. However, carpet is safer when dealing with people with abnormal gaits -- traction, some padding for falls, etc.

This house, built in 1970, had gold shag wall-to-wall carpet. 'nuff said. We replaced some of it in 1987 with synthetic W-t-W, and laid hardwood in the entry, kitchen and dining room. I had the wood floors sanded, stained, and treated with Swedish Oil finish when I remodeled the kitchen in '03. The 1989 carpet is showing its age...a lot. So, more W-t-W or upgrade to hardwood??? Gee, tough choice. Not!
